British Columbia and Alberta have a wonderful variety of wildlife, from the diminutive chipmunk to the mighty grizzly bear. There is also myriad birds and, of course, plenty of fish.
I came across my first group of Bighorn Sheep outside the Jasper townsite.
Native to North America, Bighorn Sheep earned their name from their large horns. They’re found throughout Canada, where there are two species: the Rocky Mountain Big Horn and the smaller Californian Big Horn.
I particularly admired this individual, who looked very powerful and in fine health. The herd it was with appeared to be shedding their coats ready for summer, and they were quite content to let vehicles go by while they caught a few sun rays.
