My pup and I are celebrating our third anniversary together today.
Since a young age I have grown up with a dog in the family. When the right opportunity arrived for me to own my dog, I jumped at the chance.
I had wanted to adopt but, unfortunately, the dogs’ home I visited made it very difficult and did not accept that a rescue dog would be happy in the living situation we were proposing – with my mother during the day when I was at work and with me at home in the evenings and weekends.
My parents’ breed of choice is the Shetland Sheepdog but I wanted to have my ‘own’ breed. At first, I thought about a West Highland White Terrier, but I was talked out of this in favour of an English Springer Spaniel. This was absolutely the right choice.
Three years later, my pup and I have had many adventures together. We’ve paddled in the sea at Exmouth and splashed our paws in countless rivers. We’ve tackled multiple hills, chased tennis balls and cycled through forests.
For me, and probably him too, the best bit will always be coming home and snoozing on the sofa together.
