30 countries before 30

In 18 months I will be celebrating my 30th birthday.

I was thinking about how I could mark this special occasion. I have heard of people writing ’30 before 30’ lists with things like ‘run a marathon’.

Travel is one of my passions so before I turn 30 in March 2018, I have decided to try and visit 30 countries.

30 countries before 30

When I go to Portugal in a few weeks’ time I will have visited 24 countries.

I have some tentative travel plans to go to Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle next summer but as I visited New York in 2003, I can’t count the USA as a new destination.

I am loosely planning a European break in autumn 2017, which would get me closer to my goal.

Travelling by rail I could visit the following countries, none of which I have previously set foot in before: Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, and Austria.

I could also visit the Baltic countries and stay in Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, and Poland instead.

If I wanted to go a little further afield I could do my dream trip of Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos.

Together with potential mini-breaks in perhaps Germany and Hungary, I would have visited my 30 countries.

Check back soon as I keep you updated on my progress.

  1. This sounds like a the perfect way to bring in the big 3-0! I’m about 3.5 years away, but I think this is a great goal for myself! You have to get to Cambodia, Vietnam + Laos I was in SE Asia for 3.5 months last year and my husband and I are going back to Asia next year! I cannot wait!

    1. Thanks for your comment, Paige. I am going to head over to your blog to have a read of your posts. Would love to hear more about your SE travels!

You have more time to fit your 30 in then! Where have you been so far?

      1. Well, I would love to help out if you have more questions after you check it out!
I do have a decent amount of time! I’ve been to all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, Peru, Greece, Italy, Sweden, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines and Germany. I’m missing a few, but I can’t remember off the top of my head. I’m at 20 countries at the moment….
