Trail riding in Jasper National Park

I cannot remember when the obsession first began but from the ages of about 5 to 11 I was a committed horse rider, having fallen in love with everything equine.

I picked up the hobby again while at university and during my first job, going after work with a colleague. Since then I have only ridden a handful of times, including a hair-raising experience in a far too flimsy dress in Cuba…

While on holiday in Canada this year, I enjoyed a two-hour trail ride with Jasper Riding Stables. Led by my cowgirl guide Kayla, a native of Edmonton who works in Jasper for part of the year, I enjoyed a brilliant ride on Artie.

We rode passed Patricia Lake and spotted beaver dams before crossing the Ridgeline and Cottonwood Creek. From our vantage point we were rewarded with a brilliant view of the Athabasca River.
