During the festive break my family and I visited the Magical Lantern Festival held at Birmingham’s Botanical Gardens.
The trail took us around giant lanterns that represented, as the festival’s website explains, Christmas, traditional Chinese culture and the 2,000-year heritage of lantern festivals. The festival also took place in Leeds and will be coming to London’s Chiswick House Gardens from 19th January to 26th February.
The displays lived up to the festival’s name. Each piece was dazzling, imaginative and heart-warming. They fitted their settings very well, being thought-fully positioned next to the Botanical Garden’s existing displays.
While my 15-month-old nephew was uncharacteristically out-of-sorts and did not really enjoy the displays as much as we were expecting, the festival certainly captured the adults’ imaginations!
